Standard Operating Procedure (SOP): Waste Pickup and Disposal
1. Purpose:
This SOP outlines the procedure for the proper handling and disposal of waste products, ensuring compliance with company policies.
2. Scope:
This procedure applies to all retail store specialists responsible for handling waste products at any Haven store locations.
3. Responsibilities:
Retail Store Specialists: Responsible for dropping products from Blaze and placing them into designated waste bins.
Distribution Center (DC) Driver: Responsible for collecting waste bins from each Haven location on a weekly basis.
DC Personnel: Responsible for the secure destruction of waste products at the DC.
4. Procedure:
4.1. Product Removal from Blaze:
When a product is deemed waste (e.g., display drops, damaged/defective, expired, exchange), the designated retail store specialist will:
Access Blaze.
Click the "Inventory" tab, then click "Inventory Reconciliation."
Select the correct "Inventory Type" and "Category."
Ensure the "METRC Adjustment" is set to "Adjust by Difference."
Locate the item to be dropped.
Adjust the "Actual Inventory" to reflect the removal of the waste product.
Click "Submit Report."
In the pop-up window, select the correct corresponding "Reason" & "METRC Reason" and leave a note explaining why the product is being dropped.
4.2. Placement of Product into Waste Bin:
After dropping the product from Blaze, the retail store specialist will:
Place the product into the designated waste bin.
Ensure the waste bin is clearly labeled "Waste."
4.3. Weekly Waste Bin Collection by DC Driver:
On the designated weekly pickup day, the DC driver will:
Arrive at Haven location.
Locate the designated waste bin(s).
Switch out the waste bin with an empty waste bin.
Load the full waste bin onto the delivery van.
Transport waste to DC.
Record the collection of the Waste from the corresponding Haven Location.
4.4. Waste Destruction at the DC:
Upon arrival at the DC, designated DC personnel will:
Unload the waste bins from the delivery van.
Transport waste to the designated destruction area.
Destroy waste using the DC's waste destroying method.
Dispose of waste.
5. Definitions:
Blaze: The POS system for retail.
DC: Distribution Center.
Waste Product: Any product deemed unusable or unsuitable for sale or distribution.
6. Safety Precautions:
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling waste products.
Follow proper lifting techniques to prevent injuries.
Handle potentially hazardous waste products according to safety guidelines.
Ensure that all waste is stored in containers that are in good condition.
7. Record Keeping:
Maintain records of waste disposal, including inventory adjustments in Blaze, waste collection logs, and destruction records.
8. Review and Revision:
This SOP will be reviewed and updated annually or as needed to reflect changes in company policy or regulations.
